Burton L. Bennett

Bennett, Burton L., Apr 13, 1922 – May 26, 2010, of Litchfield Park, Arizona. Died in Sun City West, AZ; born in Oelrichs, SD. Burton attended Creighton University and U. S. Military Academy at West Point. He was a cattle rancher in South Dakota and worked as a construction engineer for Dugdale Construction Company in Omaha, NE. He patented equipment that sealed asphalt pavement. Rex Chain Belt heavy equipment of Milwaukee, WI produced the equipment and Burt traveled the world training and trouble-shooting for clients of Rex Chain Belt. In 1966 he moved to Hastings, NE where he worked for Werner Construction Company. He retired as president of the company in 1994. He was a past president of the Association of General Contractors of Nebraska. He also raised and showed prized Arabian horses. Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his first wife, Marilyn D. Bennett, and daughter-in-law, Terri A. Bennett. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Butz Bennett of Litchfield Park, AZ; children: James L. Bennett of Omaha, Michael J. Bennett and wife Wendy of Albuquerque, Dr. B. Lawrence Bennett and wife Carol of Colorado Springs, Margaret M. “Peg” Thurber and husband Mark of Omaha, Burton E. Bennett and wife Carol of Highlands Ranch; stepchildren: Dr. Robert Butz and wife Shirley of Holdrege, Catherine and husband Dr. John Pershing of Hastings, Dr. James Butz and wife Debbie of Grand Island; his only sister, Mae Louise Williams of Casper, WY; 17 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. VIGIL SERVICE Sunday, 5pm, West Center Chapel. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Monday, 10am, St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. Interment, Calvary. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Samantha Bennett Foundation or Alzheimer’s Association.
