CHARLES FREDERICK KERSTEN, age 83, of Logan, Iowa passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010 at the Westmont Care Center in Logan. Chuck was born July 4, 1926 in Magnolia, Iowa to Edward and Martha (Schueldky) Kersten. He attended and graduated from Magnolia High School with the class of 1943. Church was married to Shirley Stewart, July 13, 1949. They have farmed their home place together for sixty years. There they raised four sons, Kent, Kirk, K.C. and Kevin. Chuck was on the Harrison County Fair Board and the Logan Magnolia School Board for many years. Chuck was active at St. Annes Catholic Church at Logan. He was an avid sportsman, and loved hunting and fishing. That passion has been passed down and enjoyed by his family with many trips to Canada. Chuck loved Lo-Ma sports and wrestling held his heart. Following his kids and grandkids activities was always his #1 priority and how lucky we all were for that. Survivors include his wife: Shirley: sons: Kent Kersten and wife Sandy; Kirk Kersten and wife Mary; K.C. Kersten and wife Cheri all of Logan, Iowa; Kevin Kersten and wife Jen of Grand Junction, Iowa; grandchildren: Angie Boyce and husband Tony of North Loop, Nebraska; Lanae Chase and husband Matt of Logan, Iowa; Kim Kuhl and husband Jeff of Magnolia, Iowa; Klint Kersten of Ames, Iowa; Kelli Kersten of Logan, Iowa; Kara Kersten of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Kody Kersten; Kolton Kersten both of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; Sammi Kersten of Logan, Iowa; great-grandchildren: Kaden, Colben, Brendon, Kaleb and Campbell; sister: Lois Field of Harlan, Iowa; sister-in-laws: Betty Barry of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Donna Sorenson of Harlan, Iowa; many nieces and nephews. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Lloyd, Lauren, Kenneth and Karol and sister Miriam McCurley. A Wake Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Logan High School with family visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. The family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at the Community Center in Logan following the committal service at the cemetery.
