Charles F. Macchietto

MACCHIETTO-Charles F., Born April 2, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. Son of Alfonso Macchietto and Maria Larese of Arounzo, Italy. Attended Park Elementary School in Omaha. Graduated from Central High School in 1943. Immediately thereafter entered the U.S. Army Infantry 26th Division and honorably served in General George Patton’s campaign to liberate Europe. Received a Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge and other military distinctions. Honorably discharged after achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1946. Returned to Omaha after his discharge and worked as a draftsman for the McGrath Company. Enrolled in the engineering school at Iowa State University in 1946. Graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1950. Began employment with the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers in 1951. Retired as Chief of the Mechanical Section in 1984. Married Frances Gozzo, daughter of Gaetano Gozzo and Serafina Pisano of Lentini Italy in San Francisco, California in 1947. Father to 1 daughter and 3 sons. In retirement Charles remained active in a variety of volunteer activities at his church, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and as a volunteer at Bergan Mercy Hospital for 19 years. Died February 11, 2006 in Omaha. Preceded in death by his parents, and sister Anastasia Macchietto. He is survived by wife of 58 years, Frances; daughter Mary and husband Robert Bernier of Omaha, three sons: John Macchietto and Vicki Mancillas of Fort Worth, Texas; Carl Macchietto, Albert Macchietto and wife Michaela White of Omaha; 8 grand children and 4 great grand children; two brothers: Anthony Macchietto and wife Paula, Joseph Macchietto and wife Edie; sister: Celeste and Rex Earl, all of Omaha; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation begins 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church (74th & Hascall) with a Vigil Service at 7:00 pm. Funeral Service: 9:30 am Thursday at West Center Chapel to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church for 10:00 am Mass. Entombment: Calvary Mausoleum.
