Chuck Earleywine

Charles H. Earleywine, 55 of Missouri Valley, Iowa, died April 24th at Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley. Chuck was born to Charles D. and Anne M. (McColley) Earleywine during a blizzard in Little Sioux on March 20, 1955. Chuck attended Elementary School in Little Sioux and Jr. and Sr. high at West Harrison in Mondamin, Iowa. Chuck was a state wrestling contender throughout high school, winning a 5th place medal his senior year. Following high school, he attended college at Iowa Central in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He transferred from Iowa Central to Dana College in Blair, NE in 1974 and attended college there for 3 years. He left college to go to work but returned to Dana where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education in 1986. Chuck also played football and wrestled for Dana while attending college there. After graduating from Dana, he became an assistant football coach at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, NE where he was also an RA. He then applied to be a graduate assistant at North Dakota State University and moved to Fargo, ND to work with Bucky Mohn, the head wrestling coach for NDSU. From there, Chuck moved to Missouri Valley and became the head wrestling coach and assistant football coach for Missouri Valley High School. He began teaching world history and physical education in 1991 and remained at MVHS until he retired in January, 2010. In 1998, Chuck began dating a former high school sweetheart, Deborah Day, and on November 4, 2000, they were united in marriage at the First Presbyterian Church in Missouri Valley. During his 19 years at MVHS, Chuck took many wrestlers to the Iowa State Wrestling Tournament and in 2005 he coached MVHS’ first 2-time state champion, Dalton Jensen, and runner-up, Gavin Nelson. Chuck was a role model and mentor to countless students and athletes during his tenure at MVHS. He loved teaching and coaching young people and he was highly respected by students, coaches, and teachers alike. Chuck enjoyed fishing with his dad and brothers, mushroom hunting with friends, he loved wrestling and football and even got his wife to watch wrestling matches on TV with him. Chuck liked to work the daily Jumble in the paper; he enjoyed gardening and canning the fresh produce with Deb. Chuck was happiest when he was surrounded by family, whom he adored and would do anything for. Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Charles D. Earleywine, and his sister, Sue Anne Earleywine Breeling. Survivors include wife Deborah Earleywine of Missouri Valley, Iowa; step-daughters Dana Stockwell and husband, Eric, of Beaver Lake, NE and Jacqueline Peffer and friend, Eric Damon, of Missouri Valley; step-son Justin Peffer of Omaha, NE; mother Anne Earleywine of Little Sioux, Iowa; sister Elaine Green and husband, Bruce, of Primgahr, Iowa; brothers Mike Earleywine and wife, Debbie, of Kansas City, MO and Rod Earleywine and wife, Molly, of Sioux City, Iowa; 7 nieces, 2 nephews, 4 great-nieces, and 3 great-nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 29th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Missouri Valley High School with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, April 30th at 10:30 a.m. at the Missouri Valley High School. Father Mike Berner and Pastor Barbara Todd will be the officiants. EveVonne Muff will be the vocalist and Lyle Waterhouse the pianist. Bearers will be Danny Carritt, Marty Carritt, Curtis Boeck, Nick Bean, Duane Ward, Tyler Knott; Honorary Bearers: Brian Knott, Dwight Avers, Rod Unger, Ryan Hubka, Rod Foutch, Milt Sewell, Mike Urdahl, Russ Kirkpatrick, Frank Smith,, Roger Clausen, Keefer Jensen, Bucky Mohn, Don Brothers. Bruce Flint Interment will be in the Little Sioux Cemetery, Little Sioux, Iowa. The family invites everyone to a luncheon at Nealy Hall in Little Sioux following the interment.
