Darrell E. Barnes

BARNES-Darrell E. (Barney), 83 years. peacefully entered the Lord’s Kingdom on the afternoon of March 14th, 2008, surrounded by his loving family. Darrell was born 12/10/24 in Logan, IA. Darrell was a U.S. Army Veteran during World War II as an Amphibious Engineer, and served his country in the South-Pacific. Darrell worked for H.P. Smith Ford, before opening, owning and operating Barnes Auto Sales until he retired in 1986. During which time, Darrell was appointed by the Governor of Nebraska to serve on the Dealer Licensing Board. Darrell enjoyed many friends and acquaintances, a good car race, a solo lunch-time flight over Omaha, a good poker game, and was never without his light-hearted and refreshing sense of humor. Darrell took great pride in his family, and loved all to the very fullest in a way that only truly great men can love. He is survived by his loving wife of 60+ years, Joan C. Barnes as well as daughters, Cheryl and former son-in-law, Steve Rippey, Colleen and son-in-law, Mike Campos, Carol and son-in-law, Mark Fox and Michelle Barnes; sons, Rodney E. Barnes and daughter-in-law, Carol J. and Daniel E. Barnes and daughter-in-law, Marcelina. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. The family requests that memorials be made to the Salvation Army. Vigil Service Monday 7:00 p.m. at the church. Funeral service Tuesday 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Interment Calvary Cemetery. Visitation Monday 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 7600 S. 42nd St.
