Enlisted at the age of 16 during WWII, serving in the South Pacific; longtime locomotive engineer for Union Pacific Railroad for 42 years; was a pilot; loved to hunt, fish and watch elk in Estes Park, CO. Preceded in death by parents, Rudolph and Anna Zimmerman; brother, Kenneth Zimmerman. Survived by wife, Marcina Zimmerman; children: Steven Zimmerman and wife Rosa of Ogallala, NE, Barbara Hegarty and husband Dan of McKinney, TX, Debra Scott and husband Terry of Omaha, Lori Zimmerman and Cindy Koliski of Denver, CO; 7 grandchildren: Steven Zimmerman, Melissa Zimmerman, Dan Hegarty, Jr. and wife Rebecca, Sheri Thomas and husband Justin, Chad Zimmerman and wife Shannon, Jenna Wiley and husband Justin, Krista Scott; 9 great-grandchildren: Felicity, Joseph and Donald Hegarty, Annabelle and Jack Thomas, Delaney, Ava and Ty Zimmerman, Caleb Scott; brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Phyllis Zimmerman of Columbus, NE; brother-in-law, Harvey Welch of Columbus, NE. Services Saturday, 8:30 a.m., West Center Chapel. Interment in Columbus, NE with full military honors. Memorials may be directed to the family. Visitation from 2:00 p.m. Friday, with family receiving friends 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the West Center Chapel.
