E. Dean Hallock

HALLOCK, E. Dean, Mar 30, 1926 – Sep 19, 2010. Eldwin “Dean” Hallock, 84, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2010. Dean was born to Elmer and Dora (Smith) Hallock on March 30, 1926 on a ranch in the Sand Hills located between Burwell and Ericson, Neb. After graduating from Burwell High School, he returned to the ranch and started a herd of registered Hereford cattle. On December 26, 1946 he was united in marriage to his sweetheart, Lorraine Marie Sperling. They lived on the ranch for several years and farmed north of Ord and south of Scotia, Neb. for several more years, until Dean joined the Ord U.S. Soil Conservation Service in 1957. Several years later, Dean was transferred to the O’Neill office. In 1964 Dean and his family moved to Kearney, where he was employed by Farmers National Company as a Farm Manager for 62 farms. In 1966, Dean joined the First National Bank of Kearney as an Ag Lending Officer. Four years later he moved to Gibbon, Neb. to become President of the Exchange Bank, and with the help of a group of local investors, purchased the Bank in 1980. His wife and son Jim were both Vice Presidents in the Bank and worked closely with him to serve the local area farmers, ranchers and businesses. Dean enjoyed working long hours to serve the needs of his customers and community. In 1989 Dean and Lorraine sold the Bank but retained the ownership of the Gibbon Insurance Agency. Dean was President of the Burwell Future Farmers of America (FFA) and served as the NE State Treasurer while attending Burwell High School. He served as Master of the Masonic Lodge in Ord and Scotia and as Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star in Scotia. He was active in his community as a board member of the American Red Cross, the Buffalo County Economic Development Council, Kearney Municipal Airport Board, Gibbon School Board, and President of the Gibbon Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church. Dean and Lorraine enjoyed traveling from coast to coast in their motor home. They spent 17 years enjoying the winter months in Phoenix, AZ, where they made many new friends from the U.S. and Canada. After living in Gibbon for thirty six years they made another big move in life and retired in Omaha, Neb. to be near family. Dean was best known his for honesty, hard work and constant care-giving for his loving wife Lorraine. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; a sister, Bonnadel Foster of Ericson; son Dale Hallock and wife Debbie of Omaha; son Jim Hallock and wife Lori of Basalt, CO; five granddaughters: Jennifer Hallock, Lindsey Hallock, Ashley Hallock, Amy Hallock and Katy Hallock; three step-grandchildren: Erica, David and Kristina Turk; one great-granddaughter, Isabella; one great-grandson, Tallon; five brothers-in-law; and two sisters-in-law. SERVICES Saturday, Sep 25, 10am at Faith United Methodist Church in Gibbon, NE. GRAVESIDE SERVICES Saturday, 3pm, at the Ord, NE Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
