Edward H. Gregory, SMSGT USAF (Ret.)

GREGORY-Edward H., 91, SMSGT USAF, (ret.), died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home. Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson is in charge of local arrangements. Mr. Gregory was born on 11/8/1917 in Bethlehem, PA, the son of the late Edward and Grace Gregory. A graduate of Bethlehem High School, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in March 1941 to serve his country during World War II. During the war, he was stationed in Panama, then Alaska where he was in charge of an ordinance plant. After the war he returned to his hometown in Bethlehem. Feeling the urge to continue serving his country in the military, he joined the U.S.A.F. in 1947 and was stationed in Rapid City, SD. in 1951 he was transferred to Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska and was assigned to Headquarters, Strategic Air Command. In 1953, Mr. Gregory’s unit was was called to Korea to assist the country in the fight against communism. After serving his tour, he returned to Offutt, in 1958 he was transferred to Ramey Air Force Base in Puerto Rico. In 1961, he returned to SAC Headquarters at Offutt before transferring to Moron Air Force Base in Spain where he served for 3 years before returning to Offutt where he worked until his retirement in June 1972. Mr. Gregory spent his entrie career in supply and logistics, he retired as a SMSGT. After retirement he remained active and accepted a position with the SAC Federal Credit Union, where he worked until he was 80 years old. At age 82, he moved to Madison, MS to be close to family. A resident of Madison for 9 years, he attended Madison United Methodist Church. Mr. Gregory was a 32nd Degree Mason and was a member of the Bellevue Lodge # 325. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwards H. Gregory, Sr. and Grace Moyer Gregory; wife of 32 years, Ann Banash Gregory; twin brother, Jim Gregory, Bethlehem, PA, who passed away in Nov. 2008. He is survived by sons, Jim Gregory (Jean), Ft. Worth, TX, E.H. Gregory, III (Wren), Madison, MS, Bruce Gregory and Carline, Tucson, AZ; grandchildren, Janelle Cole (Robert), Mansfield, TX, Jim Gregory, Oklahoma, Kelly and Chris Gregory, Tucson, AZ, Adam Gregory, Madison, MS; great-grandchildren, Peter, Jacob, Eli and Anna Grace Cole. Graveside Service Tuesday 11:00 a.m. at Bellevue Cemetery with full military honors by Offutt AFB honor guard. Memorials may be made to Circle Lodge #638, PO box 1993, Madison, MS 39130.
