Edward J. “Ed” Gillin

April 8, 1936 – August 11, 2017

Ed Gillin, age 81, passed away peacefully at Azria Health Montclair in Omaha, NE.  His wife, Barbara (Bailey) Begley Gillin preceded him in death in 2013. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Mary Alice (Gillin) Henni, his father, Leo Rosenbaum, and his sister, Nancy Wiese of Lincoln.  He is survived by his stepdaughter, Mary Beth Wass and husband, Alan, of Omaha; his stepson, Al Begley of Sunnyvale, CA; his cousin, John Gillin and wife, Marty, of Atlanta, GA; his brother-in-law, Dave Wiese of Lincoln, NE; several nieces and nephews; many cherished relatives and friends.

Ed grew up in Omaha and was a 1954 graduate of Creighton Prep. In his earlier years, he was a baseball and hockey promoter on the east coast and in Canada. Ed settled in Omaha, married his dear wife, Barbara, and retired from the Florence office of the Douglas County Department of Motor Vehicles after 21 years. He was life-long volunteer devoting countless hours to Holy Name Church and Mount Michael Benedictine Abbey and High School, was an avid sports fan, particularly Notre Dame football, and enjoyed a wide circle of friends.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 16th from 4:30pm to 7pm at Holy Name Catholic Church, 2901 Fontenelle Blvd, followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm.  MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Thursday, August 17th at 10am at Holy Name Church. INTERMENT at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Holy Name Catholic Church, the Begley-Gillin-Wass Education Fund at Holy Name School, or the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

    Very sorry to hear of Uncle Ed passing. Loved to talk Notre Dame football with Ed. He was a good person and loved everyone.

    Ed was one of the many people who made Holy Name so special. A selfless volunteer.

    Ed was a good man who was very giving and cared about people. I am grateful that I was able to get to know him.
