F. Dean Williams

WILLIAMS-F. Dean, age 80 years, Omaha. Preceded in death by parents, Billie and Floyd Williams and sister, Joan Thorson. Survived by wife of 54 years, Sheila Ann Broderick and 4 children, daughter, Becky Christiansen and son-in-law Kurt, sons, R.D. Williams and J. Scott Williams, daughter-in-law Beth, and daughter, Julie Greely; 10 grandchildren, Megan and Van Christiansen, Melissa, Mallory, Molly, Dylan and Logan Williams, Emily Williams, Muireann and Eoghan Greely; and one great-grandchild. Dean was born in Harrison, NE on Aug. 12, 1927. He lived on a ranch and helped raise thoroughbred horses. He attended the University of Wyoming, Chadron State College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He pursued a degree in agricultural engineering before deciding to make his living in horse racing. He started with the Daily Racing Form in 1947. Dean worked as an announcer, correspondent, and official on the Arizona and Nebraska racing circuits for almost 50 years. He was inducted into the Racing Hall of Fame in 1995. Dean was a devoted father and grandfather and took great pride in his children’s accomplishments. Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Life Care Center of Elkhorn, 20275 Hopper St, Elkhorn, NE 68022.
