Thomas F. Fay Jan 21, 1940 – Jan 1, 2016 Preceded in death by parents, William and Christina Fay; sisters, Christa Pupplo and Elizabeth Barrett. Survived by his wife of 24 years, Joan H. Squires; children: Jennifer Fay (Scott Juengel) of Nashville, Tennessee, Kathleen (Chris) Fossan of Houston, Texas, and Brendan (Sonja) Fay of Topeka, Kansas; grandchildren: Samantha, Madeleine, Maxim and Elizabeth; brothers, William (Mary) Fay and John (Rita) Fay; sister, Agnes (Robert) Bauman. An incredibly gifted musician, Tom was also a talented fundraiser, funny story teller, singer of Irish songs, exceptional writer, and consummate collector. He loved his many collections that included Native American art, American craft, Märklin trains, and single malt scotch, and most recently, films on DVDs. Most of all, he loved his wife Joan, his children and grandchildren, and his family and friends. He was born in Long Island City and grew up attending parochial schools in New York. His education included an undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Potsdam, followed by military service with the Army for the US Military Academy Band at West Point, after which he earned a graduate degree from Yale University School of Music. Tom’s professional career began with the Pittsburgh Symphony where he played second oboe for seventeen years, eventually moving into management with the Houston Symphony. He then made a transition into fundraising, first in Milwaukee and later for Arizona State University for the Herberger College of Fine Arts, ultimately serving as VP of the ASU Foundation. When he moved to Omaha, he worked briefly for the College of St. Mary until illness necessitated his retirement. VISITATION Sunday, January 10th, from 1pm to 3pm, followed by SERVICE at 3pm, both at the Holland Performing Arts Center, 1200 Douglas St. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Omaha Performing Arts; University of Nebraska Foundation—Neuroscience Alliance (Lewy Body research); or the Tom Fay-Joan Squires Craft Endowment at Arizona State University Foundation.
