Gerald Lee Christensen

Gerald Lee Christensen, age 74, of Logan, Iowa passed away Monday, July 2, 2012 at his home. Gerald was born May 25, 1938 in Harlan, Iowa to Hans and Ida (Kittler) Christensen. He graduated from the Logan High School. He served his country in the Navy. Gerald was married to Rita Ditzler, May 15, 1961 in Burlington, Washington. Gerald and Rita owned and operated the Harmony Inn in Persia for many years. They founded the 191 Club in Portsmouth with Gene Purcell as the builder, Gerald and Rita owned and operated that for many years. Rita passed away December 15, 2009. Gerald enjoyed gardening and his cats. Survivors include his sons: Michael J. Christensen and wife June of Harlan, Iowa; Scott A. Christensen of Magnolia, Iowa; sister: Dorothy Olsen of Missouri Valley, Iowa; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rita, grandson David Allen Christensen, sisters, Darlene and Renelda, brother, Vernon. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Logan Memorial Chapel in Logan, Iowa. A Prayer Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. The family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at the Elm Crest Care Center in Harlan following the committal service. Military honors will be conducted by the V.F.W. and American Legion Posts of Harlan, Iowa. Special thanks to Paula and Chris Mausbach, Six Pack and a Rack in Logan for taking care of the luncheon.
