GIBSON, Richard E., Jr. “Rick”

Richard E. Gibson, Jr., “Rick” Feb 16, 1956 – Dec 24, 2014 Died on Wednesday of a stroke he suffered Sunday morning at his home in Omaha. He will be remembered by the many who loved him as an adoring husband, a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and a kind friend who brought humor to every occasion and tenacity to every undertaking. Rick was born to Richard E. Gibson, Sr. and Thyra Dobson Gibson in Taipei, Taiwan, where the family lived for two years while Richard was on an assignment with the United States Air Force. During his early childhood, Rick’s family also lived in San Antonio, TX and Overland Park, KS, before settling in Omaha in 1960. He graduated from Westside High School in 1974 and worked in various professions including sales and optometry equipment repair, a business he conducted from his house for many years. He worked as a corrections officer at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility from 1998 to 2011 until forced to quit for health reasons. Those who knew him best will long remember his love for family (including his dogs), his unquenchable curiosity about the workings of mechanical items (and how to fix them), and his unending supply of stories and laughter. The light he brought to all he touched ended far too soon. Rick is survived by his father Richard; his wife Toni; his daughter Rebecca and her husband James and their children James Patrick, Jr., Reese, and Kerrigan; Toni’s daughter Tina and her spouse Katie and their children Jolie, Gracie, Gabe, and Olivia; Toni’s son Adam and his wife Heather and their daughter Lexi; two brothers, Rodney and John; and a sister, Cathy. He was preceded in death by his mother and his sister Teri Sue. MEMORIAL SERVICE Saturday, December 27th at 10:30am at All Saints Episcopal Church, 9302 Blondo. Memorials will be directed by the family.
