Harold J. Muell

Harold John Muell, age 88, of Logan, Iowa passed away Friday, March 29, 2013 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska. Harold was born August 1, 1924 in Panama, Iowa to Nicholas and Clara M. (Kramer) Muell. Harold served in the Marine Corps during WW II. As a member of the C. Company, 2nd Engineers Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, they landed for occupation at Nagasaki, Japan. Their jobs were making new roads and maintaining the ones that were there. Harold was a service technician. He serviced equipment in the field. That took him in and out of Nagasaki two or three times a week. He was discharged from the Marine Corps in 1946 as a Corporal. Harold was married to Darlene Rose Hufendick on March 29, 1948. Harold passed away on their 65th wedding anniversary. Harold farmed in the Logan area all of his life. He was a Trustee for LaGrange Township for fifty years, sexton and caretaker of Linwood Cemetery for many years. He was very active in the American Legion and VFW, serving as Past Commander and was the Quartermaster at the time of his death. He enjoyed collecting coins, watching wrestling, gardening, genealogy, scrapbooks and cats. Darlene passed away December 27,1997. Harold was preceded in death by his parents, wife Darlene, sisters, Arlene, Mildred, Velma and Marie. Survivors include his children: John Muell and wife Carol of Logan, Iowa; Joseph Muell and wife Connie of Logan, Iowa; James Muell and wife Sarah of Gravois Mills, Missouri; Jean Perkins and husband Dennis of Logan, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and his cat Tigger. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Logan Memorial Chapel. A Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Logan Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ron Riley officiating. Music selections will be “In The Garden” and “How Great Thou Art”. A private family burial will be held at a later date with full military honors by the VFW Post 6256 and O’Hara Seeley Post.
