Harry H. Roach

Roach, Harry H., Aug 26, 1918 – Jul 13, 2011. Omaha, NE; died in Grand Island, NE. He was born in Omaha to Thomas J. and Veronica (Collins) Roach. An Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Roach served in the European and Pacific Theaters, earning the rank of Corporal. His military awards and citations include Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Republic of Philippines Presidential Unit Citation Medal, American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal; Asiatic Pacific Service Medal; WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Roach received his Bachelor of General Education in 1941 from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. In 1943 he earned mechanical engineering certification at Texas Tech through the Department of Army. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1953 and his Master of Science in Education in 1958, both from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He also completed Harvard University’s Trade School program. He was employed as clerk for legal claims at UPRR, retiring after 44 years. Mr. Roach’s memberships included: former Judge Advocate, VFW Post #247, Omaha; Ancient Order of Hibernians; former member of State Central Committee for Nebraska Democratic Party; and Past Chairman of Union Pacific Brotherhood of Railway Clerks. He was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Roach and tommy Roach; sister, Helen Roach. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Jacqueline J. Roach; children: Deborah Gilg and husband Daniel, Joyce Reinig and husband Don, Robert Roach and wife Merry; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL is scheduled for Saturday, Jul 23, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church, 109 S. 19 St. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery with military rites by Benson VFW Post 2503. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter Catholic Church.
