Kathleen J. “Kitty” Hoffman Feb 1, 1939 – Aug 1, 2016 Kathleen Kitty Julie (Verschelde) Hoffman was born on February 1, 1939 in Ghent, Minn., to Herman and Caroline (Van Uden) Verschelde. She grew up on a farm near Minneota, Minn. With nine siblings and her parents. After graduating from high school in 1957, she joined the Army in 1959. After service, she moved to Omaha, where she lived the rest of her life. She married Larry Hoffman on June 23, 1973. By trade she was a beautician until retiring in 2001. Kitty adored her family and loved the Lord. She was a member of St. Marys Parish, and she enjoyed going on church trips, shopping until she dropped, spoiling her grandkids, writing poetry and journaling her life story, taking a million pictures, dressing up/decorating for every holiday, and playing cards. Kitty went to Heaven on August 1, 2016, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha. She is survived by her son, Todd Verschelde; her daughter, Gina Kilzer (James); her three grandsons: Dakoda, Skyler, and Riley Kilzer; her sisters: Eileen Differding, Rita Mack (Bob), Carol Roles, Bernie Verschelde, and JoAnn Scheerhoorn; her brother, Jim Verschelde; her brother-in-law, Lou Spinner; and her stepchildren, Wes Hoffman and Wanda Ruby. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Margaret Spinner and Mary Hansen; brother, David Verschelde; brothers-in-law: Alvin Differding, Ed Roles, Wayne Scheerhoorn, and Jim Hansen. Much love and gratitude to Dr. Soori, Dr. Rothlisberger, Dr. Safranek, and the entire nursing staff at Bergan Mercy Hospital. The family will receive friends Sunday, August 7th from 2pm to 4pm, with VIGIL SERVICE at 4pm, all at the Bel Air Chapel, 12100 W. Center Rd. SERVICES Monday, August 8th, 9:15am, Bel Air Chapel to St. Mary Catholic Church, 3529 Q St., for MASS at 10am. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery with military honors by American Legion Post #1. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation later.
