Edward W. Hofmann Jun 28, 1923 – Dec 4, 2016 Edward William Hofmann was born on June 28, 1923 in Clay City, Indiana to Ernst “Ernest” and Anna (Weideroder) Hofmann. One of eight children, he grew up in Clay City working on the family farm, helping to raise livestock and crops. He learned to fish in the river behind their farmstead. After graduating from high school he became an apprentice electrician in Alliance, Nebraska. Later he became a full-fledged electrician at Western Electric where he worked for over 50 years. He was a dedicated and hardworking employee and was awarded Safety and Attendance Rewards for years of uninterrupted service. In his early twenties he was raised to the degree of a Master Mason on June 29, 1944. He later became a member of The Order of The Eastern Star and a Shriner. He met Gloria Jean Rea on a boat and picnic party in the early 1950s. On February 20, 1954 they married and soon added a daughter and son to the family. Ed enjoyed boating, bowling, golfing, gardening and horseshoe pitching. He was also a great “mister fix-it” and an all-around handyman. He provided neighbors with bushels of fresh-grown tomatoes from his garden and surprised them on mornings following overnight snowstorms when they would awaken to find him clearing their driveways with his snow blower. For nearly eighteen years, Ed was a loving and dutiful caretaker to his wife, Gloria, after she suffered a debilitating stroke. Ed peacefully entered into rest at his home on Sunday, December 4, 2016. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, and his beautiful wife, Gloria. He is survived by his two children, Talia Hofmann-Sommars (Jack) and Mark Hofmann, and his, sister Anna Faye Lynn. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
