Irene Pearl (Holeton) Jacobsen

Irene Pearl (Holeton) Jacobsen, age 97, of Logan, Iowa passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Westmont Care Center in Logan surrounded by her family. Irene was born January 3, 1915, north of Logan, Iowa to Edgar and Matie (Graves) Holeton. She graduated from the Logan High School. Irene was united in marriage to Nels Jacobsen, August 15, 1935 in Harlan, Iowa, a marriage of fifty years. They were blessed with five children. She and her husband Nels lived on the same farm for fifty five years and moved to Logan in 1992. She was a homemaker and worked side by side with Nels on the farm. She was a member of the Magnolia United Methodist Church and an active member of the United Methodist Church Women’s Society, Helping Hands Society, Senior Citizens Activities, Bingo Club and Pinochle Club. She and Nels enjoyed going to their children and grandchildren’s sports and other activities. Irene enjoyed cooking, embroidery, playing cards and visiting with friends. She enjoyed being surrounded by family and preparing holiday meals was special joy in her life. Irene was preceded in death by her husband Nels in 1995, parents Edgar and Matie Holeton, stepmother Rose Holeton; brothers Harold and LaVerne, sister Virgene, son-in-laws Clifford Williams, Harold Hiller and Murril Griffith, and sister-in-law Marge Holeton, grandson Larry Williams and grandson-in-law Gene Bonham. Survivors include her children Cecile Hiller of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Janice Griffith of Logan, Iowa; Eugene and Karen Jacobsen of Magnolia, Iowa; Beverly and Steve Jorgensen of Atlantic, Iowa; and Virgene and Rick Ohl, of Logan, Iowa; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; relatives and friends. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Logan Memorial Chapel in Logan, Iowa. The family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at the Church following the committal service at the cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Logan United Methodist Church of the Logan Rescue Department.
