Joe G. Burkhart

Joseph G. “Joe” Burkhart, age 89, of Logan, Iowa passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Longview Care Center in Missouri Valley. Joe was born November 14, 1923 in Harrison County, Iowa to Paul and Minnie (Coleman) Burkhart. He graduated from the Missouri Valley High School. After his education he served in the Army during WW II. Joe was married to Janice Brownmiller, July 12, 1974. Joe worked as a farm laborer and also as a tractor mechanic. Janice passed away in 2008. Joe enjoyed mushroom hunting, coon hunting, coyote hunting, bingo and doing word search puzzles. Survivors include his son: Michael Burkhart of England; step-children: Kathy Davis and husband Cal of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Jim Cates and wife Susan of Magnolia, Iowa; Cindy Cates of Mondamin, Iowa; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren: sister: Marge Layton of Missouri Valley, Iowa; brothers: Harold Burkhart of Logan, Iowa; William and Betty Burkhart of Humboldt, Iowa; Alfred Burkhart of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Henry and Shirley Burkhart of Rapid City, South Dakota. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife Janice, sister, Inie McClannahan, brother, Earl and infant brother Rex. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Logan Memorial Chapel in Logan, Iowa. The family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at the Lutheran Church, 672 Park Street in Magnolia, Iowa. Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 6256 and O’Hara Seeley Post.
