John “Jack” Burbridge age 88 of Missouri Valley, Iowa passed away Friday October 21, 2011 at Longview Nursing Home in Missouri Valley. Jack was born September 26, 1923 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Earl and Gladys (White) Burbridge. He attended school in the Beebeetown area and graduated from the Mondamin High School in 1942. Jack married Hilda Maxine Voss, June 6, 1943. Hilda passed away August 24, 1985. Jack was married to Susan J. Allen, September 28, 1995. Jack worked as a farm hand for an uncle before striking out on his own to farm. He expanded to haying and trucking, hauling cattle to Chicago. He was asked to work at Loveland Elevator in Missouri Valley and promoted to Manager of the Loveland Grain Elevator located in California Junction. He returned to full-time trucking, hauling corn cobs from South Dakota to Quaker Oats processing plant in Omaha, Nebraska. After retiring from trucking he became a car jockey for the Ratigan Dealership driving and hauling new vehicles as far South as the Mexican Border, Mesa, Arizona, Miami, Florida, New Jersey Shore and Canadian Border. Jack was a member of First Lutheran Church, he enjoyed working in his garden and keeping his yard manicured. His favorite past-time was fishing with family and friends in Canada and later years in South Dakota. Survivors include his wife; Susan of Missouri Valley Iowa, sons; John Burbridge and wife Donna of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Richard “Dick” Burbridge and wife Marge of Mondamin, Iowa; Shelley Stoddard and husband Chuck of Yankton South Dakota; Frank Allen and wife Jennifer of LaVista, Nebraska; brother Bill Burbridge and wife Barb of Davenport, Iowa; twelve grandchildren, four step grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, one step great-great grandchild many nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Gladys (White) Burbridge; wife of 42 years Hilda, daughter; Maxine, infant son Timothy, brother Bob, sister in laws Lois, Mary, granddaughters Kayla Marie Burbridge and Melanie Kay Burbridge. Visitation with family will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday with a prayer service at 7:30 at Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the First Lutheran Church.
