Joseph Michael Greer

Joseph Michael Greer lost his courageous 10 month battle with lung cancer on March 11, 2011. He was born on February 26, 1948 in Dunlap, Iowa to William and Kathryn Christy Greer. He spent his childhood in Missouri Valley, Iowa. His adult life was spent in LaVista, Nebraska. Joe served in the United States Army from October of 1967 to May of 1969 doing a tour in Vietnam. He worked for Campbell’s Soup in Omaha, Nebraska for 26 years and the City of LaVista for 5 years prior to retirement. Joe beat colon cancer in 2000. He enjoyed hunting mushrooms, watching horse racing, golf and CNN. His favorite past times were playing Keno, doing yard work and spending time with his family. He was a very kind and gentle husband, dad and grandpa. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janice Hensley; and brothers Eddie and Bob Greer. He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Daleth Greer; daughter Cori and her husband Dave Flores; son Chad and wife Kelly Greer; step-daughter Trena Mann and Mark Nightster; step-son Darin and his wife Beth Mann all of Omaha, Nebraska. He will be greatly missed by grandsons, Aiden and Braxton Greer, and Eric Flores; and granddaughter Logan Marie Greer. He will be greatly mourned by his sister Karen Harris and Tom Brown of Omaha, Nebraska and brother, Bill Greer of Council Bluffs, Iowa. Joe also left behind loving nephews and nieces, one Aunt Eugenia Greer, many cousins, several friends and other relatives.
