Joseph Robert Paschang

PASCHANG, Joseph Robert, Jan 20, 1921 – Jul 18, 2010. “Papa Joe” was preceded in death by parents, Joseph P. and Julia E. Paschang, and brother John L. Paschang. He is survived by his wife, Marie; sons, William J. (Pamela E.) and Stephen J.; daughters: Patricia M. (Charles Trachtenbarg), Teresa, and Jeannie (Craig Tindall); grandsons, Kevin and Scott Paschang; honorary nephew Nick Pane of Reno, NV; many relatives and hundreds of friends. A native of York, NE, Joe graduated from York St. Ursula’s Academy and attended Creighton University. Joe was a 1st Lieutenant in the US Army Air Force and served as navigator aboard B-29s in Guam and over Japan during World War II. He married Marie Dolezal, his college sweetheart, on Dec. 26, 1944, and succeeded as a credit reporter (1946-’53) and salesman/manager of White Refrigeration Supply and Thermal Company between 1953 and 1969. He was a principal of the Verne Simmonds Co. from 1970 until his retirement in 1986. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and collecting cars; he was a loving husband, a perfect father, and an all-around good guy. VISITATION Thursday, 5pm-8pm at the West Center Chapel, with VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Friday, 10am, Christ the King Catholic Church. PRIVATE INTERMENT, Calvary Cemetery. Papa Joe would always express bemused disdain toward flowers at funerals, saying that folks ought to “give ‘em while they can smell ‘em.” So in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Columban Fathers, Goodwill Industries, or the Arbor Day Foundation.
