Birk, Kathleen Dempsey Jun 7, 1923 – Oct 18, 2009 Papillion, NE. Born in Sioux City, IA. Preceded in death by her husband, Allen S.T. Birk, Lt Col USAF (Ret.); mother and father, Jeannette and Joseph Dempsey. Survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Constance Birk, Bellevue, NE; daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Scott Nelson, Bellevue, NE; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Roger Dennis, Laguna Beach, CA; grandchildren Kelly and Christopher Nelson. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa teaching sorority; Bellevue Library Foundation past vice-president; and the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, Bellevue. She received her Bachelor’s degree from Omaha University and her Master’s degree from California State University, Dominguez Hills, CA. Mrs. Birk was a life-long educator whose experiences included 16 years of teaching in the Bellevue Public Schools, three years at Boys Town under Fr. Flanagan, and positions in the United Kingdom, Guam, and California during moves as an Air Force family.
