Kenton Jay Ellithorpe

Kenton Jay Ellithorpe, age 64, of Missouri Valley, Iowa passed away on Saturday, February 23rd, 2013 at the Hospice House in Glenwood, Iowa. He was born February 23, 1949 in Vancouver, Washington to Jay and Malou (Hansen) Ellithorpe. He graduated from Missouri Valley High School and Iowa State University. Kent was a police officer in the Iowa State Married Student Housing and with the Maxwell, Iowa Police Department early in his career. He also worked in the Iowa Corrections Department as a Parole and Probation Officer in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines and Council Bluffs, Iowa. Kent ended his professional career in the role of Director of Community Corrections of the 4th Judicial District serving Southwest Iowa. Kent served 21 years in the Army Reserve and National Guard, retiring as a Major. He volunteered numerous hours with the Boy Scouts of America in both Des Moines and Missouri Valley, Iowa. Kent has served in several priesthood roles since he was a youth. He currently served in the office of Seventy (missionary) in the Community of Christ formerly known as The Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was married 42 years and raised 3 children. He was active in their lives and had of late been enjoying watching his grandchildren grow. Kenton was preceded in death by his parents. Survived by: Wife: Kathy Ellithorpe of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Daughter: Ann Basta and husband Chris of Minneapolis, MN; Daughter: Marie Ellithorpe of Missouri Valley, IA; Son: Charles Ellithorpe and wife Ashleigh of Des Moines, IA; 8 grandchildren; 6 Great grandchildren; Brother: Everett Ellithorpe of Missouri Valley, IA and fiancé’ Judy Hodgson. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Community of Christ Church in Missouri Valley. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the church with Priest Marie Ellithorpe officiating.
