Mary Clara Hills

HILLS-Mary Clara. Born March 19, 1941, a most beloved mother, innovative educator and unique lover of life passed away peacefully this Thursday, December 6, 2007. The immediate family wishes to extend a heartfelt invitation to all family, friends, who were fortunate enough to have been touched by Mary’s spirit and unique zeal for life, to pay their respects this Sunday, December 9, 2007 at the West Center Chapel, 7805 W. Center Road in Omaha, NE 68124 (402) 391-3900 from 1PM to 5PM. A true pioneer in secondary education for over 30 years, Mary Hills was committed to improving the lives of thousands of high schools students at Millard and in Omaha, many of whom remained in contact with her well after her retirement in 2002. Mary Hills (Walsh) was a magna cum laude graduate in English Literature at Marquette University in 1963, and earned her Masters degree in Education at the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1974. She was also an author, and played a significant role in guiding her family, and in particular her two sons’ development in their personal and professional lives. Mary is survived by her two loving sons, Michael Morris Blum and John Clifford Blum; her Mother, Isabelle Walsh; her loving and close siblings, John Walsh, Jane Sather, Ruth Bockes, Mark Walsh, Barbara Radler, Ann Liddle and all of their families; seventeen (17) loving Nephews and Nieces; four (4) Grandchildren, Avalon Venus Blum, Lennox D. Blum, Morgan Leonard and Eli Leonard; two (2) former husbands, John Hills and Gary Lee Blum; and Stepchildren Laura, John, and Diane. Mary’s special and beloved father, Clifford Walsh, preceded her in death. Please note that, to so many friends and family who had the good fortune of knowing, loving and being a part of Mary’s life, a ‘Celebration for Mary’ will be planned in Omaha at a to-be-determined date in early 2008.
