MOSSBLAD, K. Gunnar

K. Gunnar Mossblad Dec 14, 1927 – May 4, 2015 Gunnar was born in Stockholm Sweden in 1927. As a young boy he assisted his father, a Master Tailor, in his shop in Stockholm. During the summer he enjoyed sailing, swimming and communing with nature in Stockholm’s archipelago, on an island called Resarö or Travel Island. Early on he developed a fascination with the way things were built. This grew into a love of construction, so he attended Stockholm’s Techniska Högskolan, earning a degree in Construction Engineering. To further expand his knowledge of construction, he wanted to travel to the United States. At that time visitors needed a sponsor, and his sponsor was a childhood friend of his father, John A. Anderson. After his studies, Gunnar originally planned to move to South America or other destinations, but fell in love with John Anderson’s daughter, our mother, Doris. While completing a B.S. in Business Administration at Omaha University, now the University of Nebraska Omaha, he worked for Omaha Cut Stone Company as a drafter. After completing his degree he went to work for Omaha Steel Works, later called OMSTEEL Industries. There he started as an estimator, and worked his way up to Executive Vice President. He ventured out on his own by buying into Porter-Trustin-Carlson Company and eventually was the President and sole owner. Gunnar was active in the community, contributing his time and talent to Augustana Lutheran Church Council, Rotary International, Noon Day Scandinavian Club, Immanuel Medical Center Board, American Friends of the Swedish Immigrant Museum and most recently All Saints Episcopal Church. He consistently helped Swedish Americans with translations, including original turn of the century church documents. He is preceded in death by his wife of forty-three years, Doris May Mossblad (Anderson). He is survived by his children: Karen Susan Bertelsen, J. Gunnar Mossblad, Sandra Ann Luethi; their spouses: Jerry Bertelsen, Gitte Svärd-Mossblad and François Luethi; grandchildren: Jennifer and Kristin Bertelsen, Nils, and Emil Mossblad, Sydney and Marissa Luethi, Charlotta Svärd; great-grandson, Marcus Svärd; and partner, Inessa Sharp. VISITATION Tuesday, May 12th from 6pm-8pm at the West Center Chapel. FUNERAL Wednesday, May 13th at 2pm at All Saints Episcopal Church, 93rd and Blondo. Interment, Forest Lawn. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph’s Indian School or Nebraska Humane Society.
