Raymond L. Brown

Raymond L. Brown, age 90, of Logan, Iowa passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014. Raymond was born September 23, 1923, in Hardscratch, Iowa on the family farm to John Lloyd and Abbie (Leonard) Brown. He grew up in the Logan area. He attended country school at Mt. Hope through the 8th grade and graduated from Logan High School in 1941. Raymond was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church and attended Bible School and Sunday School at Readers Mill in Hardscratch, as a kid he helped his Uncle Willy Armstrong at the Hardscratch Grocery Store. He always enjoyed working with the ponies, his dad would bring home. He married Leatrice (Plummer) Brown on November 26, 1950. The family was blessed with two daughters, Sandra Lee and Corlis La Rae. The family had a dairy farm and sold milk to Roberts Dairy. He always looked forward to spring and everything that went with it, especially the cows. Raymond had four grandchildren, three girls and one boy Jake. Jake and grandpa were always together, where you saw one, you saw the other. They farmed, ate at McDonald’s and went to the coffee shop regularly. They had a great time at whatever they were doing. Abbie looked forward to taking grandpa for his first pickup ride Of course, he thought she was going too fast. He always enjoyed going to all of the grandkids school and sports activities. Lanae remembers coming after school, popping popcorn with the air popper and reading the daily paper. Angie played softball for Midlands, he went to watch her play in Oklahoma and Texas. She remembers going to the farm for many dinners with him. Raymond died Wednesday at the age of 90, after a morning and afternoon of driving his John Deere tractor discing in a field. His spirit, his honesty and his work ethic will live on in all of us. Raymond was preceded in death by his loving wife, Leatrice; his parents and two brothers, John and Robert. Survivors include his daughters: Sandra and husband Kent Kersten; Corlis Carlson and husband Brett, four grandchildren: Jake and Abbie Carlson, Angie (Tony) Boyce and Lanae (Matt) Chase; and five great grandchildren; Kaden, Brendan, Mia Boyce, Colben and Campbell Chase; two sisters: Lois Hatterman and Marjorie Sass, numerous nieces and nephews, together with many friends. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Logan Memorial Chapel in Logan, Iowa. The family would like to invite everyone to a time of lunch and fellowship at the church following the committal service at the cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church to be used for their elevator fund. In Loving Memory Of Raymond L.
