Hammond, Robert C. MSGT USAF (Ret.) Sep 24, 1948 – Sep 5, 2009 Bellevue, NE. Robert (Bob – affectionately known as “The Hammer”) is survived by his wife Cheryl, married 38 years this October; four children, Shawna Hand and husband James, Robert Charles Hammond Jr and wife Amy, Colette Hammond, Cory Hammond and wife Heather. Bob loved all his 11 grandchildren, Danielle Breaman (husband Terry), Christopher, Daniel, and Ashlee Hand, Emma Hammond, Crystal Hammond, Kylie, Kayleen, Kennedy, Mac-Kenzie and Jack Hammond; one great grandchild Landon Breaman; also survived by father William Hammond Sr. and wife Kay; sisters, Terri Lynch and husband Joseph, Janice Terry and husband Brent; brothers, John and Donald Hammond; numerous nephews and nieces. Preceded in death by mother Betty Hammond; biological mother Mary Ellen Sigman; brothers, William Hammond and Richard Hammond. Bob served in Vietnam and was a-warded the Prestigious National Defense Service Medal with one bronze star; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; the Meritorious Service Medal; Air Force Commendation Award with one oak leaf cluster; Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters; Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one silver oak leaf cluster and two bronze oak leaf clusters; Air Force Overseas Tour Ribbons; NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon; Small Arms Expert Rifle Ribbon; Air Force Training Ribbon and Air Force Longevity Service Ribbon with one oak leaf cluster; Bob served as a master plumber in the Civil Engineer 55th Squadron. Bob was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. He passed away in the loving care of his family and friends. He will be remembered by all those who knew him for his heart and humor, love of family; Nebraska Huskers, and countless friends. Bob’s final wishes were to have everyone wear Nebraska Husker Red to his VISITATION Tuesday, September 8, 6-8 pm with Prayer Service 8pm at Bellevue Memorial Chapel. FUNERAL SERIVICE, Wednesday, September 9, 10am at Bellevue Memorial Chapel. Interment Westlawn Hillcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials to the Robert C. Hammond Memorial Fund.
