Rodger L. Jensen

JENSEN, Rodger L. Jul 9, 1926 – Jun 13, 2013 Rodger Loraine Jensen was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 9, 1926 and died in Geneva, Illinois on June 13, 2013. He was the son of Ole Daniel Jensen of Copenhagen, Denmark and Dorothy Gertrude Smith of Brayton, Iowa. Rodger graduated from Exira High School in Exira, Iowa in 1944. He then was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the 11th Airborne Division as a paratrooper at the end of WWII. Immediately following the end of the war he was stationed in Japan as part of the occupation forces. After returning from Japan he worked briefly for Mortensen’s Dairy and then for Armour Foods for 46 1/2 years, retiring in 1992. His career as a salesman with Armour took him from Iowa to Omaha, then to St. Louis and finally to Chicago. In 1957 he married Jean Marguerite Surface. They had one son, Todd David, born in 1960. Their marriage spanned 22 years. Rodger was preceded in death by his father in 1973, his mother in 1997, his wife in 1979 and his brother Allen Laverne in 2010. He is survived by his son Todd and his sister Emily (Marvin) Dudgeon. Rodger enjoyed playing golf and traveling. He was very sociable and always had a good sense of humor. He was a loving father who cared for his family and provided well for them. Late in life, Rodger had a simple faith in Christ and expressed it in kind and loving ways to others. “That in the ages to come he [God] might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.” Ephesians 2:7 SERVICES Thursday, June 20th at 11am at the West Center Chapel.
