Sister M. Denise Stolinski

STOLINSKI, Sister M. Denise Passes Away in the Philippines. Our Lord called Sister M. Denise Stolinski to her eternal home on September 23, 2013. With the Sisters praying at her side, she gave her last breath to her Creator at the Sacred Heart Convent in Baybay City, Leyte, Philippines at the age of 87. The cause of death was noted as multiple organ failure. Sister Denise was born Elizabeth Rose on March 27, 1926 to Theodore Stolinski and Theodora Stolinski (Krzycki) in Omaha, NE. She is preceded in death by parents, Theodore and Theodora, brothers: Theodore and Phillip Stolinski, sisters: Ann Rita Stolinski, Irene Smith and Sister Esther Stolinski OSF. She is survived by her brother Arthur Stolinski of Omaha, as well as her sisters Virginia Dikmen of San Diego, CA , Phyllis Glogowski of Omaha and 17 living nieces and nephews and their children, many cousins and friends. Sister Denise grew up in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church area of Omaha and was a 1944 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. She went on to attend the College of St. Mary and graduated in 1946. She entered the Congregation of the Order of Saint Francis on September 8, 1946 at the age of 20. She was invested on August 12, 1947, receiving the name Sister M. Denise. She professed her final vows on August 12, 1954. She finished her degree, majoring in Social Studies with a minor in English. Her Master’s degree was in Education Administration and Supervision from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, Indiana. On October 11, 1962 she went to the Philippines with three other Sisters to start the Order of St. Francis Community in Baybay, Leyte where she was appointed as the first Superior of the new Community and Principal in the High School at the College of the Immaculate Conception. From 1965 to 1986 she held the position of Novice Mistress. When the Community became a Region in 1976, Sister Denise was elected as Regional Councilor and held this position until 1993 when the Region became a Province of the Order of St. Francis. At this time Sister Denise opted to become a permanent member of the Philippine Province and held the position of the Provincial Councilor until 2002. For all those years, she was conscientious in the formation of the Filipina Sisters, their prayer life and community living. Sister Denise was fun to be with as she was always of quick wit, with an ability to always find the bright side of life. Her family enjoyed these traits when she made occasional visits stateside. Her greatest joy, though, was sharing her knowledge with others. She touched a great many lives and although she is gone from our sight, she will never be gone from our hearts. Funeral services and Mass were held at the Sacred Heart Convent on September 28, 2013. She will be laid to rest at the Sisters Cemetery. Memorials can be directed to Sister M.
