Vera E. Villella

Vera E. Villella

May 4, 1929 – Feb 10, 2017

Passed away peacefully in Minnesota at the age of 87, surrounded by her daughter’s, Elisa Maria Villella-DiCostanzo, family. She was preceded in death by devoted husband, Joseph A. Villella; brother, Tony Espejo; dear grandmother, Plácida Sierra; mother, Maria Luisa; brother, Paul Espejo; beloved father, Antonio H. Espejo; and peace-loving daughter, Charise Villella, all of Omaha.

Vera grew up in South Omaha, embraced by the love of her Espejo-Sierra family, playing the piano, singing in an A Capella group, and participating in Spanish debate teams. She was proud of and honored her Spanish and Mexican traditions. An opera lover from the beginning, Vera enjoyed volunteering in Opera Omaha. She worked at the Blackstone Hotel, where she met Joseph. They were married in 1954 and raised two daughters, who honored and respected their upbringing. Vera was an accomplished baker and food connoisseur; she and her husband shared a passion for gourmet food. Their mutual interest in history fueled their love of travel.

Special thanks to son-in-law, Alfredo, who orchestrated her relocation to Minnesota and delighted in serving her. Also to her grandson, Enzo, and his caring angels, Ellie, Kimberly, and Robyn, who watched over her with loving care. She will be remembered fondly by her loving family and friends.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, Feb. 14th, from 5pm to 7pm at the Bel Air Chapel.  GRAVESIDE SERVICE Wednesday, Feb. 15th at 10am at Calvary Cemetery.

My deepest sympathy to the whole family. I am glad that I had a chance to know Vera through her grandson Enzo. She was a very sweet and beautiful lady with a heart of gold. She will be missed.

Elisa, So sorry to know that you have lost both of your parents. Many years ago, my dad (Wayne Westphal) was your mailman. Every Christmas your folks gave my dad 2 fruitcakes as a gift. What a treat for us kids! To this day, I think of them at Christmas and yes, I still love fruitcake. Blessings to your family.
