Wayne Lee Zlomke, M.D.

ZLOMKE-Wayne Lee , M.D, 78, formerly of Ord, NE, died at Brookstone Village in Omaha, NE, on April 13, 2008. For the past seven years, he resided in Omaha following a stroke. Wayne was born on December 14, 1929, in Ord, NE, to Rebecca (Wright) and Elmer Zlomke. He grew up in Ord and attended the Ord Public Schools graduating from Ord High School in 1948. He graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1952 where he was a member of the tennis team and the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity. He received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Medicine in Omaha in 1956. After completing a one year internship at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, be served in the United States Army Medical Corps as Captain for two years at Port Ord, CA. On September 12, 1953, he united in marriage to Lois Ethelyn Iverson from Bassett, NE and was blessed with four children. In 1959, he returned to his hometown, Ord, NE, to practice medicine. In 1967, he opened the Zlomke Medical Clinic in Ord where he practiced medicine until 1995. On a part-time basis, he also practiced in Bassett, NE. He was passionate about all of his patients and the near 100 medical students be helped train as a Family Practice Preceptor for the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Wayne served on the UNMC College of Medicine Alumni Association’s Board of Directors. Wayne enjoyed playing tennis, raising horses and most of all magic. From the time he was six years old, he developed a great fondness for the art of performing magic. Over the years, he developed into a great magician and was known as “Zoro the Magician”. He accumulated quite a magic collection, friendships with fellow magicians and always looked forward to attending magic conventions in Las Vegas. He found great joy in his performances whether it was tricks for his patients, his children and grandchildren or shows for groups of people. Wayne is survived by his wife of 54 years, Lois of Omaha; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Mary Zlomke, Omaha; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ann and Sam Chan, Atlanta, Georgia; Kathy and Jim Welniak, Omaha, and Dana and Doug Whitfield, Bellevue; 10 grandchildren: TJ, Harrison, Sara, Tiffany, Lauren, Christopher, Amy, Kari, Dean and Danny; one brother and sister-in-law, Maynard and Lu Zlomke of North Platte, an Aunt, Wilma Williams of Calif. and other loving relatives. He is preceded in death by his grandparents and his mother and father, Rebecca and Elmer Zlomke. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be sent to the Ord Volunteer Fire Department or the First United Methodist Church in Ord, NE. Visitation with the family Tuesday 5 -7 p.m. at West Center Chapel, with further services in Ord, NE. Funeral Thursday 9 a.m. 1st United Methodist Church in Ord. Visitation: Wednesday 6 – 8 p.m. at Ord Memorial Chapel. Interment, Ord Cemetery.
