Reuel “Lane” O’Dell

Reuel “Lane” O’Dell

December 25, 1939 – March 22, 2025

Reuel “Lane” O’Dell, 85, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born in 1939 on Christmas Day in McPaul, Iowa, Lane was the youngest of four boys. He attended school in Thurman, Iowa.

After graduating, he moved to Omaha to attend trade school, where he studied refrigeration. His career led him to General Electric, where he dedicated 40 years of hard work.

Lane met Diane in Omaha through a coworker who lived across the street from Diane. They often rode his beloved Harley motorcycle—which he eventually sold to help pay for their wedding.

Lane was drafted into the Navy. During his leave, he returned home and married Diane on March 4, 1962. Lane was stationed in California, and they remained there for two years. Leaving the West Coast, they moved back home to Omaha, settled in Benson and welcomed their children, Brad and Julie. They eventually moved to Millard, building a life centered on faith, family, and community.

A gifted athlete, Lane played fast-pitch softball multiple nights a week, forging many lasting friendships. In time, he discovered a passion for making homemade wine and jerky, both of which became staples at family gatherings. Lane had a deep love for the outdoors, spending countless hours fishing and hunting. He also loved country music and playing poker.

He had a heart for serving others, fixing things around the neighborhood, helping at church, and attending to family.

Lane’s faith was the foundation of his life. He became the father and husband he was because he knew his Heavenly Father. His unwavering love and devotion to his family will forever be his greatest legacy.

Lane was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Josephine O’Dell; brothers, Bob, Lyndon, and Bernard; brother-in-law, Darrel Teter; daughter-in-law, Christa O’Dell; and grandson, Liam Love.

He is survived by his loving wife, Diane; son, Brad O’Dell (Danielle); daughter, Julie Love (John); grandchildren, Connor, Dane (Mackenzie), Camryn, Lauren, and Jaxon; sisters-in-law, Betty O’Dell and Sharon Teter; and many nieces and nephews.

One of Lane’s greatest legacies is the raising of his outstanding family. Brad and Julie are tremendous people. They, along with their spouses, have brought up children who contribute to society with their many gifts. Well done, Lane. Rest in peace.
