Josephine P. Tourek

Josephine P. Tourek

March 11, 1927-March 28, 2020.

Born March 11, 1927 and entered into eternal rest and in the arms of Jesus on March 28, 2020.
Josephine was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 70 years James, her son, Gerald, and her grandson, “Little Jimmy”.
She is survived by her son, Lonnie Tourek (Patricia); daughter, Mary Beth Barmettler (Michael); grandsons: Timothy Tourek (Judy), Kristopher Tourek (Beth), Konner Tourek and Kowenn Tourek; granddaughters, Kelsey Tourek and Stephanie Tourek; seven great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild; many nephews, nieces and wonderful friends.
Josephine was an exemplary and quintessential Czechoslovakian wife and mother. There was always pork roast, dumplings, and cabbage on the stove. Any leftovers from the pork roast, cabbage and dumplings were made into a Czechoslovakian goulash which her entire family loved. Kolaches were always in the oven and her special Czechoslovakian breads were filled with cottage cheese and poppyseed.
No one was a stranger to her and no one went without a meal at her house; breakfast, lunch or dinner. She always made sure there was enough to eat for everyone even though the cupboards were bare at times.
Josephine was a talented seamstress, making most of her, and other family member’s clothes. Her talents carried over into her quilt making and crafts. One of her favorite pastime was making Christening gowns for the grandchildren. No royal baby had a finer Christening gown.
Josephine was a devout Roman Catholic woman who prayed the rosary daily, sometimes up to five times a day. Her favorite television channel was EWTN. No other station was an option.
In her younger days Josephine was a fashion model for the Omaha World Herald and Joslyn Art Museum. Several large portraits of her remain a part of the Joslyn Art Museum collection.
We wish to thank the entire staff at Parson’s House for their unending attention and care to our mother.

Regulated visitation: Tuesday, March 31, 2020, 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., St. James Catholic Church. Private Family Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to St. James Catholic Church and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. NO FLOWERS PLEASE.

My deepest sympathy upon the death of our loving cousin, Josephine. I always admired her not only for
her exquisite physical beauty but her gentle, loving, kind spirit. Her devotion to family and friends and her
faith and deep trust in God. She was a holy woman filled with God’s love and so willing to share with others. I am sure God welcomed her with open arms and praised her for her good works on Earth. And I am sure Jerry and Jim are so happy to see her once again. Eternal Rest grant unto her O Lord and may Eternal Light and Peace shine upon her. Be assured of my prayers for Josephine and Lonnie, Mary Beth and your family

Lonnie and Mary Beth, We’re sorry for your loss of Josephine. She was a special person and such a good friend to my mom. It’s unfortunate that we cant get together to celebrate her life at this time but she will still be remembered and we will miss her. God bless you and your family.

Mary Beth & Lonny. Oh how so sorry I am, saw in paper. Your mom was the Best! Great Times, Great Memories. I will most certainly add Jo to my weekly Sunday Rosary as I have your Dad & Jerry. In these trying times, it’s hard to see the world as it has come. When we were young we always appreciated & had proper manners. That is due to our mom’s. Jo always went above all & kept her Catholic faith. To me my Respect, Love & Adoration will always remain me of your Mother. Due to circumstances I am staying in my home. Much Hugs, Kisses & Prayers your way.
Through the Mercy of God Jo Rest In Peace & The perpetual light shine upon you.

    Mary Beth-
We are sorry to hear about Josephine’s passing. She was a beautiful lady, always kind and generous to me and my family. I will never forget the times we spent with Josephine, Jim, Jerry, Teets, and others at your mom’s house on Franklin. They were never planned get togethers but they always turned into parties. Your mom was a great host! Take care! We will continue to pray for you and your family.
