Alfred J. “Fred” Marchese
Feb 23, 1931 – Aug 18, 2022
Alfred J. “Fred” Marchese was born in Omaha on February 23, 1931. He graduated from Train Elementary School in 1945 and from Tech High School in 1949. Fred met the love of his life, Pauline Jensen, as a senior in high school at Tech High. They married in 1951 and he swore they would be married until the day he died. He stayed true to his word, as they would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in December.
He served in the US Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War. Upon returning to Omaha, Fred worked as a carpenter before going to barber school. He was then a long-time barber in Omaha, retiring from his business, Shear Delight, in the early 1990’s. After retirement he and Pauline would spend winters in Nevada. Besides being with his family, Fred enjoyed reading, bowling, golf, and Huskers football. A big hugger, Fred never met a stranger, loved playing with his grandchildren, and never slept better than when holding a newborn baby.
Preceded in death by brothers, Sam, Frank (Irene); sister, Nancy (Marty) DiGiorgio; sister-in-law, Jean Long; daughters, Susan Smith and Nancy Parks. Survived by wife, Pauline; son-in-law, David (Tamara) Smith; daughter, Paula (Jim) McLaughlin; son-in-law, Dave Parks; son, John Marchese; daughter, Geri (Joe) McMahon; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Adeline Marchese; brother-in-law, Bill Long; several nieces and nephews.
