Betty Lou (Glines) Wright
March 3, 1929 – August 6, 2023
Betty Wright, age 94, of Omaha, Nebraska, was born in Chariton, Iowa to Frank and Frances Glines on March 3, 1929. With her parents and younger sister, Glo, she moved to Corydon, Iowa where she attended Corydon High School. She was elected senior class president, graduating in 1947.
Betty continued her schooling at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education, and married law school graduate, Tom Wright, on September 1, 1950. Betty and Tom lovingly raised three children, living first in Des Moines, before moving to Omaha in 1963.
After all three children were in school, Betty began her second career, as an elementary teacher in Westside 66. Her experience as a mother increased her effectiveness as a teacher. She is remembered for her practical wisdom and wit, her sense of humor, and her warmth toward both students and staff. After her husband of 35 years passed away in 1985, Betty found comfort in the children she taught, and her growing family of grandchildren.
Her retirement years were spent loving grandchildren, traveling with friends and family, playing bridge, hosting holiday dinners and birthday parties, cooking, baking, cheering, consoling, caring for her aging mother, and caring about her grown children who continued to value her advice.
Betty entered into rest on August 6, 2023, at the Country House Residence for Memory Care. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas N. Wright; sister, Gloria Montgomery. She is survived by her son, Randy (Veronica) Wright; daughters, Ruth (Jim) Woodland, and Mary (Ken) Pargett, all of Omaha; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren.
Visitation is Monday, August 21, 2023, 10:00 a.m-11:00 a.m., followed by funeral service, 11:00 a.m. all at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 15002 Blondo St., Omaha. Memorials are suggested to the Westside Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Association.
