Doris C. (Winkelbauer) Kuhl
March 9, 1930 – April 17, 2024
Doris was born on March 9, 1930, in Randolph, NE, to Frank and Othilia (Meyer) Winkelbauer. She was the 11th of 13 children. Doris met Jim Kuhl, the love of her life, while attending school in Randolph. They were married on September 5, 1949. Doris and Jim lived in Randolph until moving to Omaha in 1957.
Doris was an amazing woman who loved her family and God whole heartedly. She was a woman who touched many lives with her kindness and generosity, whether it was a gentle hug or a pan of cinnamon rolls.
She was the consummate homemaker and hostess, all while raising 6 children. Doris and Jim opened their home to many out-of-town relatives, always providing a meal, a place to rest and time to visit. Doris also helped Jim with the Funeral Escort Service, answering the phone, keeping books or doing whatever was needed. Doris and Jim liked to travel, oftentimes with family.
Holidays and birthdays were a special time to gather at mom’s house. The meals she would make for us were delicious. She knew what each child’s favorite meal was and made it for their birthday dinner. Her grandchildren looked forward to grandma’s cutout cookies on Halloween and Valentines Day. She was an amazing cook. It was a special time for her when her family was together.
Doris’s Catholic faith was very important to her. She attended daily mass and many times you would find her praying the rosary. She spent many years volunteering at Holy Cross Church, singing in the choir, making calls for the prayer line, straightening books in the pews after mass, helping serve funeral meals, making and delivering meals to The Stephen Center. Doris also volunteered each Wednesday at Douglas County Hospital taking patients to the weekly mass.
Doris loved music. She sang with the Bryan Area Mother Singers. At Christmastime her children and grandchildren would watch her perform in front of the Christmas Tree at the Durham Museum. Doris enjoyed playing bridge. She played several days a week with her friends. Doris loved flowers and spending time in her garden. While outside, she’d often be visiting with neighbors.
Doris’s greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed.
Preceded in death by husband, James F. Kuhl; and great-grandson, James Michael Kuhl. Doris is survived by children, Dan (Nancy), Pat (Rosemary), Tom (Georgie), Mary Jo Ramirez (Jim), Jane Stevens (Mark) and Mike (Susan); 16 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Rest in peace Mrs Kuhl. You were always nice to everyone Like a saint.
Having never met Doris but reading her story, what an amazing woman. My deepest sympathy to the Kuhl family, she’s now at peace.
Forever Grateful to Share Life Experiences with and be influenced by an outstanding example of a Women, Wife, Mother and Grandmother to many and who lived to be the best in humanity.
Thank you for watching out over your Children’s friends.
Love to The Kuhl Families
Our deepest sympathies to your entire family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Aunt Dori,
I’ll never ever forget you. I will always remember you arriving at my Cincinnati door which my Mother, your sister, Mary Ann opened. Mom was so overly surprised to see you standing there. To me it was priceless! Two sisters meeting at my home in Ohio. I will also never forget passing through Omaha from Minnesota to Southern California, our winter home. Our wonderful visits over coffee and you sending me on my way with chocolate chip cookies. They were the best! I’m the kid from KS, so I never really knew a lot of my NE family. But I am so blessed to have known you. I love you dearly. Rest in the arms of the Lord. You have earned it! 💕
