Mary Jo Dulek

Mary Jo Dulek

September 8, 1934-June 17, 2024

Mary Jo Dulek was born on a farm in the gentle rolling hills of Big River, Wisconsin, on September 8, 1934, to Matt and Tillie Schommer. The youngest of thirteen, she had 10 older sisters and two brothers. Mary Jo married Clarence in those same rolling hills on June 7, 1958, at the church down the road from the family farm, a church her grandfather helped build. They lived in Albert Lea, MN, and Cedar Rapids, IA, before moving to Omaha. Mary Jo worked outside the home in Cedar Rapids at a high school library and in Omaha at her home parish of St. Wenceslaus. She enjoyed cross-stitch, watching the New York Yankees, and cheering for the Wisconsin Badgers. She and Clarence had season tickets for Creighton basketball for many years, and her keen observations of college basketball led to her win the traveling family March Madness trophy. No one was an outsider in Mary Jo’s home. She insisted there was always another seat at the table, another piece of pie to enjoy, and another pillow to spare.

She is predeceased by Clarence, her parents, all twelve siblings, and a great grandson. She is survived by her three children, Sue, John (Julie), and Mark (Becky); her granddaughter, Sarah (Ben); and two great grandchildren, Iris and Ruby.

Her family wishes to thank the incredibly kind and caring nurses, aides, and staff at the Rose Blumkin Jewish Home.
