Robert Walter Pleiss
May 14, 1935 – Aug 1, 2024
Age 89 years
We are greatly saddened to announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Pleiss. Bob was an avid fisherman and hunter, especially enjoying outdoor time in Minnesota and Florida. His love of travel started while he was drafted for the Korean War and stationed in Germany. Bob loved to tell stories of his time in the Army and how proud he was to be able to serve his country.
After the Army Bob worked in electrical engineering at OPPD for 40 years. When huge storms would pass through, like on the night he passed away, he would be gone for days helping restore power to neighborhoods. Aside from this, he oversaw planning and management for OPPD. When he wasn’t working, Bob enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, home brewing, opera music, reading, and going out to eat. He spent a good chunk of his weekends watching Husker football, his kids’ soccer and basketball games, and letting refs know how he felt about their bad calls. Bob was a man of faith. The rosary and weekly mass were very important to him. Thank you for your prayers and support. We know that Bob will be missed and remembered.
Bob is preceded in death by parents, Walter and Jean Pleiss; son, James Pleiss. Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 49 years, Roberta (Bert) Pleiss; siblings, Thomas (Michaele) Pleiss, Linda (Terry) Palensky; children, Lois Pleiss, Dave Pleiss (Jill), John Pleiss (Debbie), Larry Pleiss, Michelle (Mike) Synowiecki, Mike (Stef) Pleiss, and Mark Pleiss (Erin O’Brien); grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

Very sad to hear of Bob’s passing! He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. We enjoyed his visits when he came to our house with Bertie and family members especially our Christmas parties and potlucks! Love and hugs to all of you!
I am very saddened to hear this. Bob was a mentor to me in my early years at OPPD.
My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family!
