Aileen R. Johnston
March 20, 1928 – January 3, 2025
Always with a song in her heart and voice, Aileen passed away peacefully, at the age of 96 surrounded by family, love, and music.
A long-time music teacher, Aileen served the students in the Papillion-LaVista Community Schools until her retirement in 1987. She continued to share her musical talents playing the piano and leading residents in song, including the years living with husband, John, in Chandler, Arizona where she organized a community choir. After moving to Elk Ridge Village Independent Living in Omaha, she brought the joy of music with regular sing-a-long sessions. You could find her playing the piano there, and later in Assisted Living and Memory Care.
Even though Alzheimer’s claimed her memory, it did not claim her wit, sense of humor, the ability to make music on the piano, complete crossword puzzles, nor the essence of kindness and love that emanated from her.
She treasured family and her thoughts often turned to her five sons and their families.
Aileen is preceded by her beloved husband of 65 years, John, much missed son, Jim, Mother Katherine Ross, Father Adam Ross, Brother Willard Ross, Sister Marilyn Pyle.
Survived by sons John (Lillie) of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Jef (Susie) of Nyack, New York, Jed (Nancy), Joel, and daughter-in-law Patty of Omaha; 12 Grandchildren: Jason (Amy), Ryan (Maria), Kyle (Angela), Brandon (Nikki), Scott (Rhonda), Colin (Kimberly), Alyssa, Adam, Lindsay (Joey), Evan (Jory), Michael (Laura), and Drew (Bailey); 13 Great Grandchildren: Madison, Cameron, Morgan, Elliott, Quentin, Willa, Paige, Johanna, Emmet, Katherine, Turner, Cecelia, and Jack.
Inurnment services will be held at a later date by the family.
Memorials are suggested to: SNJ Singers Scholarship Fund, 5244 S. 136th St, Omaha, 68137
