Amy Elizabeth Cox Schmid

Amy Elizabeth Cox Schmid

January 9, 1961 – May 3, 2025

Amy Elizabeth Cox Schmid, 64, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025.

Amy lived a life full of joy, faith, determination, good humor and spark.

She was born on January 9th, 1961, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Helenann and Dr. Robert Cox. Graduating from Norfolk High School in 1979, Amy continued her education at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, studying dietetics. A member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, Amy cemented her lifelong love of Cornhusker football during her college years, later becoming the 1981 Homecoming Queen.

Amy married Jeff Schmid in 1986 and they shared a 40 year love story. Amy and Jeff had two children – Abbie and Bobby – and raised them in Papillion, Nebraska.

As a Registered Dietitian with a master’s degree in diabetes education, Amy had a passion for making health fun and approachable. She always had a cheese stick on hand, with a pun to go with it. Amy was a fixture on local television and radio in Omaha and Lincoln, hosting cooking segments as part of her 30 year career with the Dairy Council.

Amy chaired the Aksarben Women’s Ball Committee in 2010 and enjoyed charitable pursuits her entire life, including supporting Avenue Scholars, SALSA and St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in Omaha.

Amy’s sparkling spirit made everyone she encountered feel special and seen. She shined in her roles of wife, mother, daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. She especially loved her newest role of grandmother – aka “Mimi” – to three grandchildren born in the same week in 2025 – Lincoln David and twins, Leon Jeffrey and Gabriel Davey.

Amy is survived by her husband, Jeff; daughter, Abbie (Schmid) Cuenca (Alex Cuenca); son, Bobby Schmid (Jordan Lambesis); her precious grandsons, family, friends and the countless strangers who felt the warmth of her presence.

Memorial donations can be made to St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, Northeast Community College, or Ability KC.

For those of us who knew and loved Amy a light has gone out in our world. I can’t come up with just one word that describes Amy. But many words-funny, sweet, kind, compassionate, loving, beautiful inside and out and most of all faith filled. Our loss is heaven’s gain. I so hope God is prepared for Amy’s presence. She will take over, rearrange, play What Not to Wear. She will make sure that everyone knows each other. That everyone says Grace. That everyone compliments one another. Most of all we can only hope she will look down into our world smile when she sees us and pray for us. May the angels lead you into paradise Amy. And may God rest your precious soul.

Great tribute to Amy. Jesus and the angels won’t know what hit ‘em! She’ll be introducing everyone to everyone, cracking jokes and talking a million miles a minute!

Great and very true tribute to Amy. It’s perfect and I’m sure bringing many smiles and laughter to all that knew her. A light definitely went out, may she rest in peace, but of course do all the fun things you mentioned!

Amy was one of my dearest friends, and part of our 3,5, 9, birthday club for over 25 years. Marlene Burns, and I were blessed, and got to celebrate our belated birthdays, with her just last week. She was not strong that day, but Kathy Jones, made sure she looked fabulous, with her hair done, makeup on, and her nails polished. Amy knew we were all there and could hear us, as we reminisced about the past. She was the most caring, fun loving person to be around. She was always raising funds for charities. She truly helped raise more funds, than anyone I have ever known. We all loved her at Reruns, when she did our TV spots, she could get in so much information in just 3 min. She’s someone that left this world a better place, than when she entered it. We will all miss her dearly, she was an incredible soul. I can totally she her telling God, go ahead & take a break, and enjoy some downtime! She’s was just that type of person, always helping someone.

The world will be a different place without Amy’s kindness and compassion. Her smile lit up every room bringing joy to others. I am grateful that our paths crossed so many years ago. May her family find peace in the kind words and condolences shared by so many.

We will miss the joy, energy and humor of Amy that we so much enjoyed over the years of going to various states, restaurants, workout rooms and churches while being involved with the banking school at SMU. She was always a total delight to be enjoyed every single minute we were together. Rest in Peace, Amy. Our love goes with you and Jeff.

I had the privilege of working with Amy several times over the years through her appearances on morning TV. Of the hundreds of guests and even the few dozen who made repeat appearances, Amy was easily the most joyful, bright, and full of conversation, even first thing in the morning. She would spend longer catching up with various folks than she did on the air on any given morning. What a pleasure. Thoughts go out to her family whom she spoke about often and at length.

  • Jodie Des Enfants Revense Posted May 8, 2025 9:40 pm

My sincere condolences to the family, You all are in my prayers. I shall forever cherish the memories of college adventures with Amy. From our day to day sorority living to sky diving in Kansas and our Spring Break Trip to Alabama and Florida I have joyful memories. It was especially hilarious as we predicted each others’ futures and told Amy she was going to be driving her large family around in a station wagon with wood on the side. I can still hear the sound of her laughter and I so appreciate her enthusiasm as she fully participated in life.
I am grateful for the decades of Christmas cards that found me even after my various changes of names and addresses. They seemed to deliver a warm hug with every bit of news. I shall look forward to giggles and hugs in our future reunion in the heavens. Here’s to you, Amy., Thanks for the memories and for your love of life, and faith in salvation.
