Ann Chandler Hancock

Hancock, Ann Chandler, 1945 – 2009. Ann passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the age of 63 after battling pancreatic cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and community activist who had a positive impact on the lives of many Omahans. She was a 1963 graduate of Marian High School and graduated from St. Louis University in 1967. She earned a masters degree in social work from Washington University in St. Louis in 1969. During the 1980s and 1990s, Ann provided leadership roles for many non-profit organizations, including Catholic Charities, Omaha Community Playhouse, Omaha Hospice Organization, and the Junior League of Omaha. She was a tireless volunteer for many causes, including Marian High School and the Juan Diego Center. She was also active in local Democratic politics throughout the 1970s and 1980s and she served on Omaha’s Zoning Board of Appeals during the late 1980s. In addition to spending time with her grandsons, family, and friends, Ann found strength and energy through the study of healing touch therapy. She loved to travel, and some of her favorite times were spent hiking in the mountains in Breckenridge, CO and Scottsdale, AZ. She is survived by her husband, Robert Hancock, and her son, Bert Hancock, who operate the real estate management and development firm Robert Hancock & Co. She is also survived by her daughters Alison Macklin of Denver and Emily Hancock of San Francisco; her mother Eleanor Chandler of Omaha; her sisters Mary Rydzel of Bluffton, SC, and Nancy Borden of Phoenix; and grandchildren: Dillon and Will Hancock of Omaha, and Ben Macklin of Denver. She was preceded in death by her father, Dwight Chandler. Ann was a selfless advocate for those in need and was a devoted parent and spouse. MEMORIAL SERVICE Wednesday, May 27th, 11:00 a.m., Servants of Mary Convent Chapel, 7400 Military. The family will receive friends Tuesday, 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the West Center Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the National Hospice Foundation or Catholic Charities of Omaha.
