Ann Marie Rush

May 4, 1942 – April 24, 2025

Ann Marie (Jurgenson) Rush was born to Orlan and Myrtle (Muth) Jurgenson on May 4, 1942, in Hawarden, Iowa, the second oldest of four children. She attended the first four years of grade school in Rowena, South Dakota. When she was in the 5th grade the family moved to rural Canton, South Dakota where she attended grades 5-7 at Kerley Elementary School. Ann then attended Canton Junior/Senior High School for grades 8-12.

After graduating, she worked for Northwestern Bell in Canton, teaching people how to dial seven-digit numbers. When this job was completed, she was transferred to Sioux Falls where she learned to be a telephone operator. She was employed there for several years. In the spring of 1964, she met Jim Rush, “the apple of her eye” at the Arkota Ballroom. Ann and Jim were united in marriage October 16, 1965, at St. Lambert Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. They then moved to Millard, Nebraska.

Ann and Jim had four children: Amy, Julie, Joe. and Jason. Ann enjoyed being a homemaker. She also took on the role of caregiver to a mentally and physically handicapped little girl. She also cared for the children of several neighborhood families. In 1984, Ann began working for Millard Public Schools as a para- educator. She retired in 2005. Ann volunteered as a religious education teacher for many years and volunteered at St. John Vianney and St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Churches. She was a member of the La Femmes of the 40&8.

After their retirement, Ann and Jim enjoyed traveling. They visited all states except Hawaii.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, Joe Rush.

Survivors include her husband, Jim; daughters, Amy Smith and Julie Rush; son, Jason Rush; grandson, Nathan Smith; brothers, Swede (Renee) Jurgenson and Gordy (Jeanie) Jurgenson; sister, Elaine (Jerry) Fry; and a host of other relatives and friends.

VIGIL SERVICE: Sunday April 27, 2025, at 3:30 PM with VISITATION beginning at 2:00PM at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, 16701 “S” Street, Omaha, NE.

MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Monday, April 28, 2025, 10:30AM at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. CDT at St. Peter Cemetery in Colman, South Dakota.

    Thoughts Prayers Love and Hugs To Jim and family at this heartbreaking time. Ann was a Beautiful dear friend of my mom Karen for many years. I always remember her smile and laughter and hearing about all the fun times y’all would have. Ann will be Loved and Missed Everyday and Always in our Hearts.     Unable to attend the services for Ann in person but wanted to express our condolences to Jim and the kids. Ann was always so nice whenever we had the opportunity to see her. Prayers to the family.
