Anne (Parquet) Kirby Mitchell

Anne (Parquet) Kirby Mitchell

September 20, 1934 – July 13, 2021

Anne (Parquet) Kirby Mitchell, age 86, passed peacefully at home on July 13, 2021, surrounded by her family.  She was born to the late Stephen Henry and Mary Ellen Parquet on September 20, 1934.

Anne’s life provided a model of strength, humility, and determination.  She possessed a steadfast faith in God and confidence in right and wrong that directed her actions, with little care of what might be popular.  She demonstrated what it meant to put others first, starting with her family, extending to volunteer efforts within the church community.

After raising a family of 7 children, Anne continued the family custom drapery business and for over fifty years, beautifying homes throughout Omaha.  Although appearing to be reserved, she was always up for an adventure.  Anne joined family for international travel, including observing the Northern Lights in Iceland, ziplining in Costa Rica, and wearing a giant snake in Belize.

Anne was preceded in death by son, Michael Kirby; husband, Morrie Kirby (30 years); and husband, Thomas Mitchell (25 years).  She is survived by her children: Mary DeNicola (Gregg), Meli Armstrong (James), Jean Kresl (Terry), Robert Kirby, Maureen McNamara (Peter), William Kirby (Theresa), Joseph Kirby (Carolyn); grandchildren: Nathaniel, Matthew, Ryan, Josie, Cody, Mickey, Kevin, Katie, Benjamin, Patrick, Anna, Megan, Molly, Mary, Nikki, Chelsie, Kyle, Ally, Lauren, Kit, Eryn: great grandchildren Bradley, Benjamin, Zachary, Lucas, Jordan, Carter, Evelyn, Elijah, Elise, Bodhi, Sawyer, Kirby, Baker; nieces and nephews.

VISITATION: Friday, July 16th from 5pm to 7 pm at The West Center Chapel followed by VIGIL SERVICE at 7pm MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: Saturday, July 17th at 10:30am at St Pius X Catholic Church, 6905 Blondo. Whenever I saw Anne or spoke to her on the phone, I called her “Mom” out of respect and also out of love. Who could not love Anne? Will hold her memory close to my heart as she was my “mom”, my friend and a fellow Nebraskan. Will see you later!

Anne was my step-mother for 25 years (Tom Mitchell was my Dad). I have many happy memories of her and loved her. Anne and I were big Harry Potter fans and went to see the movies together. We shared laughter and joy in many instances. . My thoughts and prayers are with her children at this difficult time.. I will be unable to attend her services in person but will be watching it online.
