Anthony M. “Buddy” Barnes

Anthony M. “Buddy” Barnes

December 7, 2002 – November 2, 2023

Anthony was always busy and always moving since he was a little boy.  He joined the Boy Scouts of America in 2010, while in grade school with Pack/Troop 308 in Omaha, NE.  He enjoyed hundreds and hundreds of different activities and adventures with his father, Scouting family, and Scouting friends through the years.  In December of 2020, Anthony achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, after being actively involved in Scouting for over 10 years!  Anthony graduated from Millard West High School in May of 2021 and was a member of the Millard West Trap Team for all four years.  His Eagle Scout project; four wooden benches, are located at the Ashland Gun Club in Ashland, NE, which is the team’s gun club sponsor and where the trap team practices regularly.

Like his great-grandfather and father alike, Anthony,  AKA “Buddy” to his family and closest friends, was an avid lover of cars and anything related to cars, including his car clubs/meets.  For the last two years, Anthony worked at Baxter Ford Papillion, working on cars and following in the footsteps of his beloved great-grandfather, Buddy Ladd, hence the nickname, Buddy.  He also loved his family, guns, fishing, hunting, animals, being outdoors in nature, and more cars.  He was an extremely polite and soft-hearted young boy who always wanted to help others.  He grew up into an even more polite young man with a huge heart, always wanting to help others whenever and wherever he could.  He will be missed by his entire family all of those that were lucky enough to have known him as a friend.

Anthony is survived by his parents, Austin and Candy Barnes (Thompson); sister, Olivia Barnes; grandparents, Judy Barnes (Ladd), Stephen and Helen Mattes (Lopez), David and Nellie Thompson (Gdanov); many relatives and numerous friends.

Buddy and Olivia are like our own children. We are so heartbroken to lose him. He was such a generous, courteous, and helpful young man. You guys did a great job to raise him up as a true Man for Others and his dedication to service of others will continue to live on forever.

Anthony was my cousin and my best friend all wrapped into one. We shared some of our high school experience together and still hung out a lot after graduating. Any chance we got to see each other we took it. We had some amazing adventures together and I can’t believe they are gone. I love you Anthony!

God has a plan, he always does. I know I’m not supposed to understand the why, itway past what my brain can comprehend. Such an amazing family and an amazing young man. I am blessed to have seen him often as he would hang out with Mikayla. They ALWAYS found a way to hang out when they had time. I am also blessed to share the same birthday and we made it a point to tell each Happy Birthday, It will definitely be sad not hear from him on Dec 7th. Buddy, I can not even understand the hurt your parents and sister are going through, but I feel it. I will celebrate your life every day, and extra on December 7th. I love you and miss you Buddy! Rest easy, we will handle it down here. You just enjoy God’s company, don’t forget to say “HI” to your family now and then.
