Arthur James “Art” Hilgendorf
March 5, 1950 -January 9, 2022
Arthur James Hilgendorf, aged 71, passed away on January 8, 2022. Art was born on March 5, 1950, in Waterloo, Iowa to the late James A. and Elfrieda A. (née Gremel) Hilgendorf.
Art was first and foremost a man of faith, and his love for his Savior Jesus Christ was the fire that fueled his whole life. He cared for his family with deep humility, charity, and humor. Art was a constant companion to his wife, a steadfast rock for his children, a great favorite with his grandkids, and a true friend to all those who knew him well. He enjoyed outdoor sports and activities, and loved to travel, but most of all he treasured the time spent with his family and grandchildren.
Art was the beloved husband of Georgeann F. (née Tirabassi); the dearest father of Fr. Stephen (Hannah) and Hannah (Jim) Nieman; loving grandfather of Maria, John, Joseph, and Isaac Hilgendorf, and Mira and Maliyah Nieman; adored step-grandfather of Lucas and Evie Nieman; dear brother of Richard (Nancy) Hilgendorf and Kathy (née Hilgendorf) Willson; and cherished uncle, cousin, and friend to many.
