Audrey Van Pelt

March 10, 1929 – October 24, 2022

Audrey Elaine Van Pelt passed peacefully surrounded by her family on October 24, 2022, at the Josie Harper Hospice House.  She was born in Peoria, IL in 1929, to John and Alpha Houghton.  She attended Bradley University, where she met her husband, Gene. He preceded her in death.

After Gene and Audrey married they settled in Omaha, Nebraska, and had three daughters. Because of Gene’s long career with McKesson Drug Co., the family had the opportunity to live in many different states. Each move meant new friends and adventures for the family.  Audrey always made the moves go smoothly and always kept busy with church, singing in choir, being a room parent, leading Girl Scout troops, sewing, and supporting her husband in his career.

Later, Audrey was very active with the Questors Antiques Organization, quilting groups, managing a home health care business, and being a patient advocate at a Rapid City hospital.

Audrey was always ready to hop in the car and visit her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, no matter where they lived,  enjoying the scenery along the way.

We will remember Audrey for her contagious smile, beautiful voice, her kind and giving heart, her outgoing spirit, and the generous love she gave her family and friends.

Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Gene; their infant son, Jeffrey; her parents; seven siblings.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Paula and Myrle Buzzell, Linda Van Pelt-Carr and Michael Carr, and Laura and Brad Peschong; 6 grandchildren: Julie Schreiber, Jeff Buzzell, Tara Pugliese, Greg Vogel, Andrew Peschong and Emma Younie; 11 great-grandchildren: Emily, Sarah, and Jack Schreiber, Nathan and Nicholas Buzzell, Ava, Leah, and William Pugliese, Jillian and Jett Vogel, and Baker Younie.

No service is planned at this time. Memorials may be directed to Josie Harper Hospice House, Omaha NE. Our family wants to thank the staff for the love, care, and kindness shown to Audrey and her family.  It will never be forgotten.

Also, many thanks for the messages and love shown us during this difficult time. We are very blessed to have had our Mom and Nana with us for so many years and we cherish our memories.

    Linda & Greg,
I so fondly remember Audrey & every time I drive by her house on Hagen Ct. I smile. Audrey & I were in Questers together & quilted together. We even designed a quilt together & called it “Bow Tie Affair.” It is still in my closet. I must pull it out. Extending my deepest sympathy to you, Janet Hofer (still Colin’s mom).🤓
