Barbara Baker

October 14, 1934 – August 14, 2018

Barbara Baker was born on October 14, 1934 in Rushden, England.  She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ethel Potter of England, and her husband, Don R. Baker.  She is survived by her siblings, Eleanor Potter Houghton (Rennie), Stephen Potter (Sharon); her children, Michael R. Baker (Kathy), M. Shane Baker, and Brooke J. Baker Erickson (Alan); and her grandchildren: Brandon Baker (Brurria), Ashley Baker Zierott (Adam), Drew Erickson Sarah), Christian Erickson (Alex), Ian Baker and Noah Baker.

Barbara married Don, a young Sgt. in the Air Force in 1954 while he was stationed in England and subsequently followed him to the United States.  She lived in numerous cities to include Denver, CO, San Antonio, TX, Sioux City, IA, Salt Lake City, UT, Orlean , France, Long Crendon, England, Papillion, NE and then spent hers and Don’s retirement years in Venice, FL (which she absolutely loved!) before returning to Omaha (somewhat stubbornly and reluctantly) to be near her children. She spent her last years at Lakeside Village.

While in Papillion, Barbara was the secretary for Tara Heights Elementary School for a number of years and then the secretary of LaVista Junior High for many more. Barbara retired from the public school system in 1988.

Barbara was a loving yet somewhat sassy wife and mother.  She loved being the center of attention, the Queen, you could say.  She loved a “good” cup of tea and always something a little sweet.  Barbara did many crafts throughout her life but she really enjoyed quilting the most and was glad to make quilts for many of her friends and family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was a very giving woman.  She very much loved being around her friends and family.

A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held on Saturday, August 25th at 10am at the Lighthouse Chapel, 17600 Arbor St., Omaha NE  68130.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Quilts of Valor Foundation, PO Box 191, Winterset, Iowa 50273.  Please note Omaha #577 for your donation.
