Barbara Joan Nelsen Dodenhof, 80 of Omaha Nebraska, passed away on January 11, 2025, surrounded by her family. Barb was born on July 30, 1944, to Paul and Rose Nelsen in Omaha Nebraska.
On February 6, 1970, Barb met Mel at the Walking Cane Honkey Tonk Bar. They were married on December 27, 1970, and together formed a family of 6 children to whom she devoted her life to. Barb and Mel shared a pure and unwavering love for each other where they supported and cherished one another throughout their 54 years together.
Barb was selfless, loving, generous and caring with an incredible sense of wit and humor, and left an impression on everyone she met. She loved working in the yard, creating flower arrangements, cooking, all animals but especially her pugs, and cherished their drives together, specifically through Chalco Hills.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Mikel; grandson, Sean; and her 5 siblings.
Barb is survived by her loving husband, Mel; and her children: Marc (Debora), Dawn, Melisa, Melvyn and Heather; along with 12 grandchildren and 22 great- grandchildren and brother, Howard.
We invite friends and family to celebrate the life of our beloved Barb.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are kindly suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project or to a favorite animal rescue

Aunt Barb is such a wonderful lady. As I get older It makes me realize just how much time was wasted because we think we have forever. I will miss Aunt Barb and that giggle of hers as she was great to see her and Uncle Mel when we would get together. I know it’s hard and not easy to go through a loss but just remember she’s with God now and not suffering anymore. Aunt Barb will be missed by so many friends and family. We love you Aunt Barb and Uncle Mel.
I have so many fond memories of Aunt Barb. She was always so kind and was very helpful to me for all the help with my Mom. She always had a smile and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Aunt Barb and Uncle Mel were the perfect match for each other!

I sincerely loved Barb. She treated me like a daughter when I was far from home and starting the difficult journey becoming a surgeon. She will always live in my memories. I am heartbroken that God has taken His angel back, leaving us with a huge hole. Barb, I love you.
Growing up across the street from my Mom’s lifelong friend from Tech. High, I have many fond memories. Over time after leaving the neighborhood I would run into Barb and Mel all over town from restaurants to hospital waiting rooms, always greeted with a smile and happy memories. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of Barb, she will be missed!
So sorry for your loss. I loved her very much.
