Barbara Kay Hyland Hagan
Age 85
Born February 19, 1938, in Sioux City, Iowa, Barbara Hyland Hagan passed away on December 25, 2023, in Omaha, Nebraska. “A few of my mother’s gifts were to be cheerful and look beautiful regardless of the event,” said members of her immediate family. “She was an elegant and sophisticated woman and a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend,” they added. The wife of Larry Bronston Hagan, Barbara was the daughter of the late Vincent Hyland and the late Ardath Hyland. Her beloved siblings included Richard (Lori) Hyland of San Francisco, California, and Sandra (Nick) Lopes of Omaha. A graduate of Central High School and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a member of her treasured Alpha Phi sorority, she also was an elementary school teacher and a dedicated community volunteer. Among her many activities were serving as a member and Vice President of the Junior League of Omaha, the Omaha Hearing School Board, the Clarkson Service League. the Salvation Army Board and Children’s Nebraska Hospital. She was an active member of the Alpha Phi Omaha Alumnae Chapter and served as Omaha Rush Chairman. She was also an avid member of Dundee Presbyterian Church and Countryside Community Church. Barbara loved playing tennis and golf at Happy Hollow Club, cooking, playing bridge, reading and especially gardening. Her four favorite flowers were her adored sons, Dr. Steven Hagan of Omaha, Matthew Hagan of Washington D.C., Timothy Hagan of San Diego, California, and her daughter-in-law, Alice Tucker Hagan of Omaha. She particularly cherished her four grandsons and their wonderful wives, Matthew (Natalie) Hagan and their son, Henry, of Scottsdale, Arizona, Christian (Megan) Hagan of Dallas, Texas, Mitchell Hagan of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Tucker Hagan of Omaha. She will greatly miss all of the many wonderful friends and bonds that she made with other community leaders throughout the years. Barbara is, was, and always will be one of our most favorite people in the world.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 9, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and a Memorial Service will be held on January 10, at 11:00 a.m. Both will be held at Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler West Center Chapel, 7805 W. Center Road, Omaha, NE 68124.

We are so saddened to hear of Barb’s passing. We had many fun times together. . Her pretty smile brought sunshine wherever she went. Love to all.
As first cousins of almost the same age Barba and I spent wonderful times together, some in Omaha, others in Lincoln and many more traveling to wonderful places. I miss her already but am comforted by the love she shared in her life.
Barb is making many friends in Paradise!!
